Through Wheeling and Banking
Through Wheeling and Banking Facility in Solar Energy
Wheeling and banking is a solar energy solution where power generated at one location is transmitted to another (often distant) location for consumption, typically using the public grid infrastructure. This model is popular in open access solar systems, primarily for commercial and industrial consumers.
What is Wheeling?
Wheeling is the process of transmitting electricity generated from a solar plant (usually off-site or remote) through the grid to the end-use location (like a factory, office, or plant). The energy flows through transmission/distribution lines owned by the utility, and the generator pays a wheeling charge for this service.
What is Banking?
Banking allows solar energy producers to inject surplus electricity into the grid and withdraw it later (within a defined period), much like storing it temporarily. This is crucial for solar producers, as solar generation happens during the day while consumption may peak at other times.
